Some of the millions of "documents" produced today — email messages, photos, contracts, newspapers — might be considered historical documents in the distant future.

However, the Declaration of Independence, the wording of which was approved by Congress on July 4, 1776 declaring independence from England, was so important to the formation of America as a nation that today it is considered one of this country's most valuable historical documents.
